Cradle to Career: Empowering Every Stage of Life
“Cradle to Career” is a bold community initiative building foundations, forging pathways, and empowering every child to become a lifelong achiever. From early learning to career readiness, we’re investing in every stage—creating champions through opportunity, support, and collaboration.
The Cradle to Career initiative connects families, schools, organizations, and businesses to support every stage of a young person’s journey—from early learning to leadership, and from graduation to gainful employment.
Program Structure
The initiative is built on three connected stages:
- Foundations (Birth to Age 8)
- Pathways (Ages 9–18)
- Promise (HS graduates)
The third component – the Abbeville Promise scholarship program – has been in place for years and has been a resounding success. FCCF will implement new initiatives to ensure that students are prepared to take advantage of dual enrollment programs, career preparatory programs, and scholarships.
- Foundations (Birth to Age 8)
Goal: Ensure children enter school healthy, supported, and ready to learn.
Focus Areas:
- Encourage early childhood development through partnerships with schools, libraries, health providers, and childcare centers.
- Promote early literacy efforts and kindergarten readiness.
- Support quality childcare and wellness initiatives.
- Pathways (Ages 9 to 18)
Goal: Expand access to enrichment, leadership, and career opportunities.
Focus Areas:
- Support academic enrichment programs.
- Encourage youth leadership, citizenship, and service learning.
- Introduce career exploration and entrepreneurship.
- Promote health, wellness, and the arts.
- Promise (Post-Secondary & Career)
Goal: Tuition-free college access and workforce readiness
Focus Areas:
- Anchored by the highly successful Abbeville Promise, providing tuition-free college to local students.
- Promote soft skills, career exposure, and employability.
Community Partnerships
FCCF will partner with existing organizations to improve public awareness, enhance programs, fill gaps, and coordinate for greater impact. We do not intend to reinvent the wheel or duplicate programs. We collaborate with:
- Local schools and school districts
- Libraries, nonprofits, and civic groups
- Colleges and technical schools
- Employers, workforce boards, and economic developers
- Faith communities and youth organizations
Together, we’re building a connected system of support that grows with each child.
Why It Matters
Cradle to Career is critical because success doesn’t happen by accident – it’s built over time through
- Consistent opportunity
- Strong guidance
- Meaningful engagement.
When we support all youth along the way, we not only help those at risk of falling behind, but we also empower every child to stay active, focused, and ready for a bright future.
Outcomes
Too often, services and programs exist in silos. Cradle to Career brings them together—so families can navigate life’s stages with consistent guidance, and communities can see long-term outcomes like:
- Higher graduation rates
- Improved workforce readiness
- Stronger family stability
- More young people returning to live and work locally
