What is Drop Everything and Read Month?
Drop Everything and Read (D.E.A.R.) month is a special time for families to slow down, press pause on their busy days, grab a favorite book, and enjoy the simple joy of reading together.
Throughout the month, FCCF brings volunteer readers into welcoming public spaces across our community to share stories, spark imagination, and celebrate the magic of books. Whether you’re 2 or 92, there’s something powerful about reading together.
Our Goals
During D.E.A.R. Month, we aim to:
-
Inspire a lifelong love of reading in children of all ages
-
Connect students with caring, positive community role models
-
Make reading fun, visible, and celebrated throughout our area
How You Can Get Involved
There are many meaningful ways to be part of D.E.A.R. Month:

Bring a Friend
Invite a coworker, neighbor, or friend from your workplace, club, or church to join you as a volunteer reader.
Volunteer
Help with event setup, greeting families, or supporting activities during the celebration.
Spread the Word
Share our events on social media or send an email to FCCF@wctel.net to volunteer
Community Partnerships
We welcome partnerships with local businesses and organizations. There are many ways to support:
-
Monetary contributions
- Promoting events via company communication channels
-
In-kind contributions (gift cards, books, toys, etc.)
- Food or snacks for events
D.E.A.R. Month is more than an event, it’s a community-wide celebration of stories, connection, and imagination. We invite you to join us in making reading visible, joyful, and shared across our community.
“There is no such thing as a child who hates to read; there are only children who have not found the right book.” – Frank Serafini
