Support Local, Eat Fresh!

Join the movement and support your local farmers markets in Abbeville, Calhoun Falls, Donalds, Iva, and McCormick. With fresh, locally grown produce and a warm, community-driven atmosphere, these markets offer more than just food—they nourish our health, economy, and environment.

Supporting your local farmers means investing in your neighbors. Direct-market farmers and artisans not only rely on community support but also give back—89% purchase supplies locally, keeping money within the community.

Farmers markets provide affordable, fresh options and play a critical role in supporting healthy lifestyles. With competitive prices and initiatives tailored to low-income families, they increase access to quality food for all.

Fresh Food. Strong Communities.

Freshwater Coast Community Foundation (FCCF) believes that healthy communities begin with access to healthy food. Since 2020, FCCF has worked with local governments, Clemson Extension, farmers, businesses, healthcare organizations, and community leaders to establish and strengthen farmers markets throughout the Freshwater Coast region.

Our farmers markets do more than provide a place to shop; they connect local farmers directly with consumers, support small businesses and artisans, improve access to fresh, nutritious food, and create gathering places that strengthen community life.

Many rural communities in our region have limited access to full-service grocery stores. By supporting local markets, FCCF helps reduce barriers to healthy food while creating new economic opportunities for farmers and food entrepreneurs.

Our Impact

  • Helped establish farmers markets in five rural communities
  • Created new market opportunities for local farmers, homesteaders, food producers, and artisans
  • Expanded access to fresh fruits, vegetables, meats, eggs, baked goods, and handcrafted products
  • Supported participation in the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program
  • Built partnerships among local governments, Clemson Extension, healthcare providers, businesses, schools, and nonprofit organizations to strengthen regional food systems

Growing More Than Markets

FCCF’s vision extends beyond operating successful markets. We are building a regional food network that encourages more families to garden, homestead, raise livestock, and produce locally made goods. By investing in local producers and strengthening community food infrastructure, we are helping create healthier residents, stronger local economies, and more resilient rural communities.

As opportunities arise, FCCF works with community partners to improve market facilities and develop long-term assets that support local agriculture and increase access to fresh food for generations to come.
